Statement of Expectations for the Australian Energy Market Commission and the Australian Energy Regulator (December 2013)

Publication date: Friday, 31st May 2013.

On 7 December 2012, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) recommended that the former Standing Council on Energy and Resources (the Council) develop enhanced budget and performance reporting for the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

On 31 May 2013, the Council agreed to an accountability and performance framework for the AEMC and the AER, consisting of:

  • Statement of Expectations developed by the Council
  • Statement of Intent to be developed by the AEMC and AER respectively.

The Statement of Expectations cover:

  • the role and responsibilities of the organisation
  • the organisations relationship with the Council
  • other stakeholder engagement and communication
  • the financial reporting obligations of the organisation.
The Council agreed the Statements of Expectations for the AEMC and the AER at its meeting on 13 December 2013.

The corresponding Statements of Intent are developed by the AEMC and AER and submitted to the Council annually and include key performance indicators for the AEMC and AER.
